The Davenport community and the medical family at Genesis Medical Center are mourning the tragic loss of Andrea Bladel, who passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, following a sudden accident. Andrea was a dedicated Trauma Nurse Coordinator and a fierce advocate for public safety whose life’s work was centered on protecting others.
A Career Built on Compassion and Care
Andrea served as the Trauma Nurse Coordinator at Genesis Medical Center and the Trauma Program Manager at MercyOne. She was more than just a medical professional; she was a mentor and a leader. Whether she was leading campers through “GAIN Camp” to inspire the next generation of medical professionals or managing high-pressure trauma cases, Andrea’s “calm in the storm” presence was legendary.
A Voice for the Community
Andrea was deeply committed to preventative care. She worked closely with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to launch local safety campaigns, famously reminding her neighbors that “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.” Her passion for reducing alcohol-related fatalities saved lives before they ever reached her trauma bay.
Legacy in Davenport
Andrea’s colleagues remember her as a brilliant RN and BSN who combined technical expertise with deep empathy. Her loss leaves a significant void in the Genesis Davenport Medical Center, but her impact on Iowa’s trauma care standards will be felt for years to come.
